Marwan Farouk Bio
Marwan Farouk was born in Baghdad in 1958 to an Iraqi father and German mother. After his father’s death in 1963, the family returned to Germany and lived there for 10 years. In 1973, his mother remarried and they moved to England, where he completed his studies and has lived ever since. Having left the Middle East as a young child, he speaks little Arabic and German is his second language, after English.
He studied medicine at Bristol University, and specialized in general and laparoscopic surgery. He has worked in the USA and the UK. In the US, he completed his MD thesis on hepatic peptide hormone receptors before returning to clinical work in the UK. He worked as a General Surgeon in various Hospitals in London, Edinburgh and the Home Counties.
He married a fellow MD and they had three children before divorcing. They lived in Buckinghamshire and he worked there as a Consultant Surgeon specializing in upper gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgery.
After retirement, Marwan Farouk set up SafeReturn, a medical repatriation company whose mission was to arrange the repatriation of sick patients from abroad to the United Kingdom.Marwan Farouk now divides his time between Greece and UK.
